Community service

For me, being a fully-realized individual involves taking initiative outside of my professional work. I believe that investment in my community is one of the most worthwhile uses of my time. Every community has its own challenges, and I have put my skills to work in my local community of Howell Station – a transitional area of Atlanta that’s experiencing explosive growth. Unfortunately, fast growth sometimes outpaces smart growth. I saw an opportunity to help make sure that things like infrastructure, beautification, public transportation, and affordable housing are part of the solution. Below are some examples of my ongoing community service work.

Positions Held:

Howell Station Board of Directors

Zoning Committee Chairperson

regional volunteer coordinator – Democratic party

Westside Paper Rezoning

Westside Paper is a 245,200 square foot mixed-use redevelopment of the former Atlanta Paper Company facility in West Midtown Atlanta. Located adjacent to a future Atlanta Beltline trail, the project will provide high-character adaptive reuse commercial space allowing direct access for tenants and an abundance of outdoor workspace.

As the chair for the Howell Station zoning committee I worked with Third & Urban, Upper Westside Community Improvement District, Zoning Review Board, and residents of Howell Station to come to an agreement that included improved bus shelters, 60% AMI low income housing, and up to 3 million dollars for local infrastructure improvements.

mt. ephraim rezoning

When a multifamily developer sought to rezone the site of a historic church for apartments and townhomes I approached them for collaboration early in the process.

I engaged with the developer & local community to shape the development to preserve old growth trees and historic architectural elements of the former church.

Through negotiations I also helped secure much needed funding for a local park, security cameras, and infrastructure improvements such as parking, bus shelters, and a bike lane.

PROJECT GRANITE

Project Granite is a huge development – over 1.15 million square feet. The bulk of it being two data centers, plus roughly 250,000 square feet of offices, 400 apartments, and 50 townhomes.

During their rezoning process I worked with City Council members, Atlanta Beltline Inc., Upper Westside Community Improvement District, Zoning Review Board, and representatives of QTS to come to an agreement that included a donation of over a million dollars for local infrastructure and public space improvements.

I also helped secure an easement within the development crucial to Beltline construction that had been stuck in negotiation for over five years.

Democratic Party of Georgia

South East regional volunteer coordinator for the Ossoff and Warnock congressional runoff races. Volunteer Coordinator & canvasser for the 2020 presidential election.

Fair Fight Action

Volunteered for the get out the vote initiative using phone banking, text banking, and door-to-door canvassing. Trained as an unbiased observer for vote counting verification during the 2020 presidential election recount process.

Trees Atlanta

I frequently volunteer for Trees Atlanta – a nationally-recognized nonprofit citizens’ group that protects and improves Atlanta’s urban forest through planting, conservation, and education.
